Annotation: The strengths and weaknesses of the educational system of South Africa are considered. Its problems based on socio-economic and cultural contradictions have been identified and analyzed, and tendencies of its development have been noted. Conclusions are drawn about the necessary conditions for the progressive development of the system of school and higher education in the country.
